graphite vs. carbon fiber

Carbon fiber is apparently also referred to as graphite fiber, but neither are the material one would use as a sacrificial anode in electrolysis. That graphite is also referred to as extruded graphite.

Now I'm really confused. I thought carbon fiber is what everyone on this site is saying is the best for a sacrificial anode?

In one thread, a member referred to them as carbon fiber, but that was not correct. Graphite plates or rods are what is used.
