I've had the chrome #7 for a while but picked up the lid at the dinkys auction. it was a little dirty but not bad but for some reason (I assume because it was plated and a lot of people avoid plated pieces) it sold fairly inexpensively.. so I bought it, put it in the lye bath for a couple of days and shined it up and put it on my chrome skillet. I don't think I've ever really looked at one of these up close and personal... and now I kind of wonder what the process was like for applying the chrome or for prepping the surface... as the dull part on top has an interesting texture to it in contrast to the smooth part around the outside.

I always thought DuChro was a marketing gimmick to make something special out of what they couldn't do, as in mirror polish the irregular surfaces. The top of the lid is apparently what you get when you can't polish the bare iron smooth before you plate it.
