First gate marked find

Since it will only be practical over a fire, not having a lid will detract from its usefulness. The bail attachments are an old style, but larger pieces were continued to be made with bottom gating for quite some time after side gating was adopted for stove cookware.

Ok, since I am more of a user at this point I'll pass, I see why your saying about desiring a kid for fire cooking due to ash

The lid functions more to retain heat and moisture, and typical ones have rims to allow hot coals to be placed on top.

I’m confused here. This appears to me be a recent (10 IN) (Import?) spider kettle, not a camp Dutch oven. It sure could use a lid but can be used on a stove top. I love mine.
