Is this an early Favorite?

I picked it up for $2. It really has the same weight and feel as some of the early Wagner and Erie's. The handle really reminds me of Favorite.

I'd say the gatemark eliminates the name brand makers altogether. Looks like a recast, from a 2nd series Erie perhaps.

It is really light...the funny thing is I found another EXACTLY like it the same day at a separate flea market stuck in with a bunch of Favorites. I just sort of wondered if it was old. I thought recast because of the bottom gate but it was weird to find another the same day.

The heat ring does have a Favorite look to it, at least the photo makes it appear that way.

In some respects, it does resemble a Favorite handle seen on some of their sizes during some period of their production, which in total was pretty short. It also, however, has a lot in common with some other makers' handles of that era. If there was a ghost "FAVORITE" on it (like the one recast perpetually seen on eBay), it would remove all doubt, but the rough pour obliterates the entire marking area.

So most likely a recast. I just made me wonder that I'd seen one 20 miles away that was exactly the same...and stuck in a stack of Favorites.
