Re: Rust!

There will be some variation in experience from pan-to-pan. I have an unmarked Griswold #3 with the three-hole handle that I stripped years ago with electrolysis and never got around to seasoning. It...

Re: Is This a Kettle?

Pre-mid-20th century, and early to mid-1800s in particular, cast iron hollowware was quite thin relative to that which came after, the result of automated molding line requirements. Long term rusting...

Re: Confirmation - Unmarked Wagner?

There are what appear to be unmarked Wagners with the "old style" handle with the pointed teardrop hanging hole, smooth bottoms, and no other markings but the size on the handle. The ones that are...

Re: Confirmation - Unmarked Wagner?

A few things about them say Wagner, the numeral font, the small triangle on the underside of the handle and the small letter on it. IIRC, there is a #8 Wagner with that same or similar unusually wide...

Re: What Do I Have?

That would be a ham boiler. Popular enough in their time that toy versions are seen. Made both footed and flat-bottomed. Usually no lid, but Lodge made one with a two-part (think coffin) lid....

Re: Wapak with Gate Mark?

Genuine Wapaks are not known to be bottom gated. This would be a recast using a Wapak pan as a pattern.

Re: BSR Sauce Pot Question?

BSR sauce pans (as opposed to stew pans) came in sizes 2,3,4,6 and 8, the numbers corresponding to their capacities in quarts. They have raised size numbers on the handle tops.

Re: Aluminum Lodge Info Please,,,,,,,,,,

Aluminum is a far easier metal to work with than iron, which requires a tremendous amount of heat energy to melt. Aluminum can be melted down using equipment available at a hardware or outdoor store....

Re: Aluminum Lodge Info Please,,,,,,,,,,

Lodge didn't make aluminum pieces. Makers who did make aluminum skillets made them with wooden handles because of the metal's high heat conductivity. Interesting that it doesn't appear to be bottom ...

Re: Griswold Hammered Skillet with Hinged Lid

Wire wheeling is frowned upon as it has the potential to permanently alter original surfaces, thus destroying collectible value. Steel wool and stainless steel Chore Boy pads are fine. See...

Re: Griswold Hammered Skillet with Hinged Lid

Based on the photos, several days. Some rust has insinuated itself in a few areas and the lye won't help with it, but other methods should take care of that. It's possible there will be some residual...

Re: Looking for Information on an Ikea Dutch Oven

Searching "oval roaster" rather than "dutch oven" may improve results.

Re: Warped Pan Solutions?

This is what can happen when a cast iron pan, warped or not, receives a sharp blow.

Re: Favorite Chicken Fryer

Katker did not make Favorite cookware, as that part of the business had been sold to CHF.

Re: Favorite Chicken Fryer

As noted on the page referenced, Favorite Piqua Ware went out of business in 1935, and sold their cookware patterns to Chicago Hardware Foundry, who altered them to add their name. Concrete...

Re: I Need Help Identifying Skillet

Older Wagners also had non-blended handle ridges. But I see what you're saying, I wonder if it's the way the lighting is from the side that makes the heat ring not look as "rolled" (really old...

Re: I Need Help Identifying Skillet

Appears to be an older unmarked Wagner. There's no clear information supporting the notches as being intentional; they are more likely some type of occasional damage suffered by patterns, which were...

Re: Can Anyone Help Me Identifying These Items?

Re: P.F. Crossan

Seems like if it was the manufacturer's mark (as opposed to a molder's mark) it would be a bit less cryptic and actually use the initial of the manufacturer's last name. Since the only reference I...

Re: Unmarked 3 Notch

3 notches alone don't automatically make a Lodge. Lodge "Top O' Stove Broilers", before the egg logo, had size marks at 12 o'clock like their regular skillets, either alone or with TB below, and with...

Re: 10 1/2" Skillet

Perhaps it was an adhesion problem and removal was not all that difficult. I note that we don't ever seem to see these with a partial coating remaining.

Re: 10 1/2" Skillet

BSR made some with the same HR style. But anyone familiar with late BSR and late Wagner markings and handle styles should be able to tell the difference. Who copied whom is unclear. BSR did Teflon...
