Re: Newbie Seasoning Question

I believe itís possible for a pan to warp if the temperature changes too fast. I have a #9 Griswold Dutch Oven that warped and I believe it was from putting it into a hot oven while the pot was empty...

Re: Sad Iron Collecting

I have three sad irons. I picked a couple up less than $5 at thrift shops and I got one from a friend in a bundle deal. I also have a small kerosene operated sad iron heater. It has a wick like a...

Re: Cleaning Up a Broken Edge

I bought a Lodge 4 in 1 pan (top half of the set) The tab was broken off. I used the bench grinder and cleaned the edge up. Just go slow because it takes the metal off pretty quick. Also donít let...

Re: Cast Iron Sources Other Than EBay?

I have never bought anything from EBay. Most of my iron came from thrift shops. I have found some pieces from flea markets, yard sales and even Antique stores. I got one great deal (#16 Lodge Camp...

Re: "Economy Collecting"

When I started collecting I bought almost any cast iron cookware, and got disappointed with cracks, pinholes, and wobbles. My strategy changed as I learned more about the hobby. I wonít buy cracked...

Re: Staining?

I had some success with a green Scotch Brite pad recently. The thing is not to scrub too hard in one spot or you will have a shiny spot. Itís better to use less pressure but scrub longer if that...

Re: Severe Pitting... How Did It Happen?

It kinda looks like someone sandblasted it but didnít sandblast the Logo. Iíve never seen one look like that.

Re: Hole in Kettle

I have had a couple of antique cast iron pieces that when I started to remove the rust a pinhole showed up. A three legged spider skillet and a different size spider skillet lid were both thick...

Re: Lodge Blacklock Warp

I gave a couple of family members each a skillet that I had restored. I asked them both what kind of stove they had and both replied glass top. So I didnít know much about them and thought that a pan...

Re: Can Rust Form Under the Seasoning?

After viewing YouTube, and Facebook Groups on Cast Iron, nothing surprises me anymore. Some folks just remove loose surface rust and season over the rest. I just pulled a #14 unmarked skillet (Iím...

Re: What is This Gigantic Thing?

I have one of the ham boilers that I havenít cleaned yet. But they were designed for a wood stove and may have been an option at the time of sale. The lids that Iíve seen were tin coated steel and...

Re: Martin Stove #10 Skillet

I wonder if it is an actual short steel screw that found itís way into the sand mold sand or the mold itself just prior to pouring!

Re: Help Identify

I agree that itís a great find! The red mountain pans with the large pour spouts are definitely harder to find. I have found only 1 #8. I have found about 10 #8ís with the small pour spouts.

Re: 2 Gallon Pot Tilt Ring Size?

I have one that did the same thing. The whole area is too thin and fragile to weld. I tried drilling and tapping it but the hole just kept growing. I started with 8/32Ēand gave up after 3/8Ē so thin...

Re: Slight Wobbles, Yay or Nay?

I will not purchase a common-average pan with a wobble. I will purchase a pan with a slight wobble if it has other characteristics that I like such as Older Gate Marked pans, Uncommon sizes or...

Re: Seasoning Intricate Designs

I restored a couple of Cracker Barrel logo skillets and they werenít hard at all. But since I have other users, Iím not sure how much of a pain they are to maintain the nice looking bottom with use.

Re: Is This Kettle/cauldron Too Far Gone, or Can It Be Restored? Is It Even Worth It?

I myself would pass. It has some serious rust and pitting. I was over zealous when I started collecting and bought a bulge pot, and two old spider legged skillets that holes showed up when all the...

Re: Cooking in an Early Erie Skillet

I feel that you are lucky that it didnít permanently warp your skillet. I wouldnít try heating the cooking surface like that again ďupside downĒ I ruined a #9 Griswold Dutch Oven because the oven was...

Re: ID Pot Please

Itís a ham boiler. Typically with duel gatemarks. I have seen a couple with a tin lid but most without a lid. The lid was probably optional and being made of tin most havenít survived. You would...
