Another ID

When it rains, it pours. Another DO (or whatever you want to call it) with a skillet handle. The owner tried to register, but his email wouldn't pass muster.

A unique handle, which may help with...

Re: DO ID

The main page refers to it as a camp oven, but in all my years of camping, I've only heard it called a dutch oven.

DO ID

A guy over in another forum found this Dutch Oven. The only markings are "No. 2" on both the lid and the bottom's bottom. The thing I've never seen is a skillet like handle instead of a bail type...

Re: For those interested in flaxseed

I've been using Flax seed oil, although I only do 3 rounds as opposed to 5. I love the looks.

Re: Some questions about seasoning

In regards to the last question, I've had good luck not coating a hot or warm piece. There's no denying that it must be dry. I take the piece and heat it on the stove top, but I then let it cool. It...

This backs up what I've been told about the differences;

One friend has indicated two levels of flaxseed oil....

Re: Cooking Tools

A good example of an end grain board. And also, kudos to your description of how a knife dulls. I would only question the idea that wood, regardless of grain, self heals or kills bacteria.

Kevin,...

Re: Cooking Tools

There's no reason for name calling. I stopped doing that when I left grade school.

I've been hanging out and working in wood shops since I was 8 or 9, starting in my Dad's shop, which is now my...

Re: Cooking Tools

Actually, no. This is what that cutting board is made of. While it doesn't specifically say so, this is black walnut. And your use of the phrase "edge grain" is wrong as well. The pic on the left...

Re: Cooking Tools

Key words.

And are you sure about the "end grain" thing? End grain is the more porous part of any wood. Every set of plans I've seen for cutting boards since the 7th grade specify side grain....

Re: Cooking Tools

I cringe whenever I see wooden kitchen tools. That comes from when I worked in restaurants back in high school. Here in Virginia(and probably other states) you weren't allowed to have wooden tools of...

Re: Lodge Griddle

What an ordeal! But I overcame them all.

I use a 5 gallon bucket for my e tank I've only done smaller pieces of CI in it so far, so I didn't think about it until I got ready to put the piece in....

Re: Lodge Griddle

No vinegar on hand. And the pic makes it look better than it is. I'll get the E tank inside tomorrow and let it thaw. It'll have to go back out to use it, but I have an idea to keep it from freezing...

Re: Lodge Griddle

That is all I am hoping for, a good user. I just like to know about stuff. I think as I get older, it seems to be more important to me than before. It doesn't have to be old to be cool, as in this...

Re: Lodge Griddle

Not knowing much about Lodge, I was hoping that might be a model number, but when I got to the Lodge website, It mentioned straight off that they've been around since 1896. Maybe it's like Wagner's...

Lodge Griddle

First, I'll just say it's good to make friends. I go in to one of the thrift stores I frequent, and "Mike" says "I have something for you", knowing my interests. He trots out this griddle, and says,...

Re: Seasoning other than CI?

Sorry for being so long. I've been dealing with a bit of snow.

So, it looks like I'll give it a try. As soon as I get defrosted.

Seasoning other than CI?

I just rescued a charcoal grill. It is in very good shape, except for the cooking grate, which isn't real bad, just left out too long. It'll clean up, but I was wondering if it would take a coat of...

Re: Your thoughts on blasting????

I've had good luck with Easy Off oven cleaner as my source of lye. Spray it on,stick it in a trash bag to contain the fumes, and come back to it in a couple hours. I've never had an issue with...

Re: Iron? Doorstop?

Doorstop, it is. Besides. I'm not sure where I might be able to find a place that pays for scrap cast iron. Copper? no problem.
