Re: Wapak with Gate Mark?

I have to agree with it being a recast. It's a shame too, because it is a Wapak chicken foot.

Re: Very Old and Gate Marked Cast

Unlike many other collectibles, old cast iron cookware increases in value when restored properly. Old bottom gate marked pieces are no exception.

Re: Griswold Hammered Skillet with Hinged Lid

Definitely no wire wheel or power tools of any kind. The lye tank, followed by the etank will work perfectly. Very nice piece, especially since it was from family.

Re: Smooth Bottom, Slant Logo Griswold #8 HTF

I've seen posts of the #8, but I've never seen any of the other sizes. I bet it would be a pricey set to put together.

Smooth Bottom, Slant Logo Griswold #8 HTF

I just took this out of the lye tank to put into the eTank. I normally don't take pictures at this point, but I was pleasantly surprised at what I uncovered. I suspected it possibly could be a smooth...

Re: My Latest Haul

Nice haul, every once in a while you have a day like that. Especially love the #11 ERIE. I think 11s are the most undervalued size skillet out there. Just don't run across them very often in my...

Re: Hammered Lodge

Beautiful little skillet. I recently picked up the same thing in a #5. Single-notch, hammered, plated Lodge.

Re: 10 1/2" Skillet

Interesting. I have this skillet in an 8 inch version. The Teflon coating is still there, but quite worn.

Re: Erie #7 Bean Pot

Doug, I see this discussion a lot. While it is true that the Griswold family owned the factory and the ERIE pieces were made in the same factory as the Griswold marked ones, I still see it as being...

Re: Single Notch Lodge Hammered #7 Restore

Very cool idea of showing the progression through the cleaning process. I did it once with a #14 Griswold, but didn't show as much detail in the photos. Nice job.

Lodge Wildlife Series DOG Skillet

Just finished restoring this Lodge Setter Dog skillet. It's from their 1990s Wildlife Series. I'm usually not that interested in newer pieces, but I understand that this is a very hard piece to find....

Re: Hammered Griswold Vs Hammered Lodge

I've always wondered about the handles being nearly identical myself. Did one just copy the other, or is it possible it was some sort of joint effort between the 2 companies??

Re: Holy Cow! Was Anyone at or Watching the Prices at the Ohio 'airworks' Auction To

Yeah, I saw some posts about it. I know that the hard-to-find pieces have been bringing good money lately, but that was crazy. I think I heard that a #13 lid brought $5000 ?

Re: Big Pile with a Hammered Single-notch Lodge

Yeah, I've fallen way behind, lol. I don't run tanks in the winter.

Big Pile with a Hammered Single-notch Lodge

I bought a nice pile of skillets yesterday. There are a few nice pieces in there, including my first hammered, single-notch Lodge. It's a chrome #5, with a few worn areas on the cooking surface. Also...

Re: WAPAK #12, (2) WAGNER #11s. Recent Finds

Doug, I felt it was a possibility when I was buying this skillet. Closer inspection, tilting at every possible angle, it still doesn't appear to be. Something looks a little different in that area,...

Re: WAPAK #12, (2) WAGNER #11s. Recent Finds

Thanks Sean. It's the first Wapak 12 I've come across. Filling yours in with use sounds like an enjoyable experience, lol.

Re: WAPAK #12, (2) WAGNER #11s. Recent Finds

Thanks Ed. They all are in great shape and sit incredibly flat for pans of this size. I will be cleaning and re-seasoning them this spring or summer.

WAPAK #12, (2) WAGNER #11s. Recent Finds

Picked up a few good pieces the other day. Except for the #4 Griswold, the other 3 were a first for me.

Re: How Many Rounds of Seasoning

You really only need 1 layer to provide protection from rusting. You will add seasoning with use. I do 2 or sometimes 3 layers to darken them a little more. that is strictly for cosmetics to resell.

Re: Ok, Not Cast Iron.. .but How About Some Bottom Gated Griswold Aluminum?

That's a very interesting piece of history. Thanks for sharing this information. I live right across the river from New Kensington and will have to research this a little further.
