Helping a friend ID her Dutch oven

Had dinner with a friend last night, and discovered a shared love of cast iron. She has a Dutch oven she hasn't been able to identify. I'm wondering if it is BSR, based on the handle shape and use of...

Re: Coating exterior with dish soap before open fire cooking?

Thanks, Bryan, but it is my memory that is rusty, not my CI. My cast iron is well-used and thoroughly seasoned. LOL. Got any remedies for middle-age brain dog?

Re: Corn Pones - 7 Sticks

Sounds good! My regular corn bread recipe makes way more than will fit in my corn stick pan. I end up having to cook it in batches, which isn't very convenient. Maybe I'll try just making this...

Re: Coating exterior with dish soap before open fire cooking?

Thanks! We're taking our boys camping next week, and we're taking along our big Dutch oven with legs. We usually just grill on camping trips, but my renewed interest in our cast iron cookware...

I've been looking at cast iron bacon presses, both online and in stores. Do you have to pre-heat the bacon press? I usually place my bacon in a cold CI frying pan, so it doesn't stick so badly. I...

Re: Baking in CI...to preheat or not to preheat...

If I'm making corn bread, I preheat the pan in the oven, and melt the butter in the pan at the same time. I add a little extra butter beyond what the recipe calls for :chuckle:. I mix all the other...

Re: Fajitas

Looks delicious! I love a good fajita, though my kids tend to only want the meat, and skip the veggies. They don't know a good thing when they taste it!

Coating exterior with dish soap before open fire cooking?

Twenty-some years ago, when I was a camp counselor, I recall the camp director instructing us to coat the outside of our cast iron Dutch ovens with a thin layer of liquid dish soap before placing...

Re: Identifying Dutch Oven

I haven't seen any mention of a two-piece style anywhere. Any idea how old that would make it? I haven't seen any references to this on any of the cast iron identification sites I've visited. I'm...

Re: Identifying Dutch Oven

Thanks for your quick response! I've been so baffled by the differences between my lid and most other BSR lids I've seen. Any recommendations for books or resources (online or otherwise) where I...

I just posted some pictures under New Collector's Corner, with a post titled "Identifying Dutch Oven." It does have pour spout cover "ears." Some members on a FB group for BSR users did not think...
