Wax Like Residue

Picked up a handful of Lodge / Bsr 3's and 5's at a flea market. They were all in decent shape with some buildup from cooking but not to bad. Threw the first two into E-tanks over night. They both came out looking fairly good but I notice they booth have some sort of invisible residue that is the texture of wax. There is no signs of any oil or coating on them but you can feel it as tacky on your hands or finger nails. Hot water, Dawn, Chorboy, and 3m scrubber all failed to even reduce the stuff. I tossed them into plastic bags with heavy does of oven cleaner will check them tonight. Has anyone else ever run into this type of issue and if so did you figure out what it was or how to strip it off?

After cleaning several of these I am pretty sure this is a byproduct of some sort of animal based cooking oil. The lye cleaning did a decent job getting rid of the residue. Is this a normal byproduct of cooking with animal based oils ?
