Saturday's Finds

Friday at 5 I stopped by a small shop thinking they were open till 6, but nope they closed at 5, but as I stepped in the door I immediately seen a piece, checked it out briefly before excusing myself and said I'd be back tomorrow. From memory I poured through the red and blue books knowing I had seen this design before, then I spotted it, I believe it's a Wagner R muffin pan with the cutouts. I'm hoping after it comes out of the lye tank my suspicions will be confirmed. Is that what it looks like to you guys? According to the book the one with citoutsnis harder to find, is this still true? Also I couldn't find any sold eBay listings, any idea of a value? I snatched it up for $14.

While I was there I seen a few other pieces and ended up with all but one of these from the same place, most expensive piece was the waffle iron at $25

Can't make out any markings yet on the waffle iron but I can see it maybe has the markings like 8 x 9 raised on the paddles, has anyone seen one like this before? Once it's hot how do you lift the lid? Is there supposed to be rings in the holes on the paddles? It obviously was made to work over an open stove eye because the entire assembly rotates on the center side posts and the hinge transfers from one side to the other. I figured I'd take a chance for $25

And lastly, I didn't need another large pot, but found this one interesting because it actually had name markings on it, so for $15 I decided to grab it, it appears to be in great shape but after I took the pic I noticed above the gate mark it may have some a line of pitting, I'll see after cleanup, if it's not good the wife will use it for a potted plant on the porch. Never heard of this foundry, internet search says Buffalo, NY, are their pieces common or not so much?

The icing on the cake was I spotted one last pot, My mom bought it for $15, turned out to be a Wagner Yankee kettle #5

On this Wagner pan, if you don't know already. Its handles are referred to as a "lid lifter" style in that they'll accept a stove lid lifter. A great way to get the pan out of a hot cook stove oven although a little unwieldy to walk around with, one-handed only. A pan with a lifter in the handle looks pretty neat on display, I think.

Thanks Mike, I did not know that, those unique handles are what stood out to me when I looked at it briefly, made it easier to narrow down in research

Did some researching online on the waffle iron, i found some waffle irons that look identical, that are marked North, Chase & North - Philadelphia PA or
Norths, Harrison & Chase - Philadelphia PA, however the ones i found were marked with large raised lettering and i can tell even before cleanup mine doesnt have that much markings, however the designs appear identical.

I posted this one last week or the week before... and there was someone else on here with one similar to mine posting a day or two later ... ours both have a raised '8' on the top... but same hinge as yours... but ours have a different pattern on the inside.

I'm pretty sure the base I have with mine isn't the correct one... but the hinge pins fit and it does allow it to rotate. I also wondered about opening it up... the little bump on each side seems to function more as a leg so it sits flat rather than as a handle for opening. I haven't tried mine yet for making waffles... but I plan to have a knife handy to slip between the paddles.

Thanks for posting, I can tell mine have the concentric circles, but will have to wait until i get it cleaned up to see more, yours is different from mine in the fact that yours seems to rotate perpendicular to the base handle, where mine rotates parallel with the handle, if that makes sense?

I bought the waffle iron without a base... the base in the pics is one that I had at home (I bought a skillet at an auction, no one wanted the waffle bases and they 'bundled' them with the skillet I wanted... so I had two different waffle bases sitting around... and the one pictured had those unusual hinge indented sections on each side... so when I saw the waffle iron with the pins and no base I had a hunch I might work... even if it wasn't 100% correct.)
