Unmarked Griswold

In the Identifying No-Name section of this site, there are 3 unmarked Griswolds listed. There is the Iron Mountain, and the one with the 3 holes in the handle. The third appears to have a ribbed handle, with the size at 6 and the 3-digit p/n at 12 o'clock. Has anyone ever seen this skillet with the size at 12 and the p/n at 6? And does anyone know the approximate period of manufacture? Thanks.

Here are some pics. Font looks like the "3-holes-in-the-handle" series, but obviously handle doesn't have 3 holes, or rib either. Has inset heat ring and 3 digit pattern number like the unmarked series that isn't Iron Mtn. or 3 holes in the handle (By the way, what do folks call these unmarked series, that aren't Iron Mountain?). So, any thoughts on who made this pan and when?

Although the markings are in the same font as the 3-hole handle unmarked, the p/n is the same as the non-IM unmarked series. The latter have been shown to be de-branded Victors. I am curious as to the dimensions of this piece, and if it is sized like a regular skillet or smaller like the economy lines.

It's in the bath at the moment, but I'll post dimensions soon. What would be the critical numbers? Inside and outside diameter at the lip? Depth?

Both. The econo pieces were smaller diameter and shallower than standard of the same trade number.

Although the sizing is close between Griswold #9 regular skillets and #9 Victors, the old catalogs give the regular skillet a depth of 2" and the Victor 1-7/8", with the top diameter 11-1/4" (1918) or 11-3/8" (1932) vs. 11" (both).

Hmmm...so where does that leave us? Depth corresponds to regular skillet, diameter is somewhere between regular and Victor. Font/pattern number of the unmarked Griswold (but reversed in their location). Inset heat ring corresponds to several different models. Handle is similar to LBL except doesn't have the little flat triangular shelf where it meets the skillet wall.

What's your best guess on the story and date of manufacture for this guy?

Here it is cleaned up a little - not bad, but not quite as nice a casting as my IM #3 or my LBL #5.

Educated guesses are about all that can be made. The inset heat ring (for Griswold) came in around 1905. The other skillets (668,669) with this odd font were smooth bottom, so that suggests those were made ~ 1930 at the earliest.

A photo in the RB on pg. 134 shows a skillet with a p/n of 755 (in the other configuration and font than yours), dates it ~ 1920s, and then says it is from the unmarked series referred to on pg. 25 of the BB from a price list dated 1931. But that doesn't appear to be correct, in that there are only ever seen the three "regular marked" unmarked skillets (754,755,756) and the list on BB pg. 25 is for a much fuller line of cookware (predecessor to Iron Mountain perhaps?), including several skillet sizes and other pieces for which p/ns in the 75x range have not been seen.
