I've been in the hunt for a Dutch Oven & Chicken Fryer. The problem is I seem to keep seeing pieces I like with no lids. I know the Dutch Ovens all most likely came with a lid, but what about the Chicken Fryers?
Most sets came with a lid to fit both the DO and the Skillets. I'm not sure if the Chicken Fryers came with a lid or not. What I have done is I bought the CF and then looked for a lid marked Skillet in Wagner but it didn't fit (Bummer) but I found that the lid was meant for the normal sized #8. So I opted for the glass lid C-8 which fit perfect. This might be a good option for you too.
My guess is most chicken fryers did not come with a lid. To get a lid for my BSR #7 fryer I had to buy a #(7) 8-B DO and the lid is too big for my #7 BSR skillet. Now that I have it I'm not sure I like it. Many deep fried foods like to let the steam out.
Wagner, Griswold, Lodge and others made a version of it. If I had to have only one piece of CI it would be my mothers Lodge, hammered finish 4 in 1 deep fryer.
