I have been sitting on this one, I found it a few months ago for only $7. It it completely covered with a crusty reddish colored layer of gunk, which the electrolysis is removing nicely. I expect it to look immaculate when done. What is the value of one of these, I keep reading they are 'rare' but that's by people trying to sell one.

So far what is being revealed looks like quite good condition, the bare metal is gray and quite smooth. Give me gunk over rust any day.

I would agree, except when it hides cracks and warps. Rust can surprise you sometimes, though. I have two Lodge pans that were rusty-- one cleaned up slick as glass, the other still has its factory fresh grind marks.

I've become pretty good at spotting surface rust and rust that has created pitting, but yes I've been pleasantly surprised. My Maid of Honor DO had thick caked on rust inside on the bottom, but there was no pitting underneath.
