Cleaning A Nickel Plated Wagner

I found what I'm pretty sure is a Nickel Coated Wagner Chicken Fryer. Does anyone have any FIRST HAND knowledge of how to clean one of these? Can I put it in the E Tank? Has anyone on here seen any bad stuff happen one way or another? On another site, there's negative stuff about both E Tanks and Lye baths but it's all 2nd hand. Anyone have a lye bath turn the Nickel Plate gray or have an E Tank remove the plating?

Lye will not remove or dull nickel (Wagner only used nickel). Electrolysis, at the normal 12VDC/2-10 amps, should not lift plating unless it has already been compromised and rust has worked under it in spots. If in doubt, use lye first to remove crud, and vinegar after for any rust.
