Fire Damage Question?

I recently found a Griswold #5, my initial thoughts were it was discolored like it may have fire damage, but I'm new at this. Overall the pan is in good shape with no cracks or potting, just discoloration in a reddish tint. Is this still usable/will it hold a season?

Not the worst I've seen, but that's the color of fire damage. It might not be bad enough to be a problem. You'll just have to try and see what happens.

It does indeed sit very flat. The iron itself looks very well cared for sans the discoloration. I'll give it a go cooking with it and see if it holds a seasoning or not. I suspect the previous owner may have used a campfire to heat and clean it a few times based on a quick conversation with her.

You could always try something like frying a few fritters in it to see how it works. That way you are not out much if they taste bad.
