Date and Maker of Wash Pot?

Hi y'all, I'm new to collecting cast iron (although I've cooked with it for years) and have always wanted a cast iron wash pot. Well recently picked up one from an estate sale for what I thought was a good price. From what I've read about dating them is to check the bottom for "gate marks" and the shape of the handles. Then I read that you really can't go by that because some makers continued to make them the same way and some are being reproduced. There also seems to be a "U" on the bottom which I guess would be the maker? HELP PLEASE! Thanks, Dale

There were many, many foundries that made wash pots/cauldrons. Unless the foundry name is on it, you will likely never know which foundry made it. Dating it would also be a shot in the dark, but likely between 1900 to 1930 or so.
