How to Clean Dutch Oven Trivet

I have found a great Slant/Erie Dutch Oven with Lid and Trivet. I know how to clean the cast iron, but not sure how to clean the Trivet?

I don't think I can put the Trivet in the Lye bath can I?

The trivet, if made of cast iron, can be cleaned just as you would any iron cookware; lye, electrolysis, etc. The slant/Erie dutch oven, by the way, did not come with a trivet as far as I know. I think it was made available sometime in the 1920s. Does anyone know for sure when?

If the trivet happens to be aluminum, the answer is neither lye nor electrolysis. Both will dissolve aluminum. If you can find it, Dawn Power Dissolver does a good job on aluminum.
