All cast iron hollowware is created using sand molds, so don't let the seller make that out to be something special. The design characteristics and forged handle certainly place it well over 100 years old. But the pitting on the lid is damage and takes away from value. If it had markings to identify the maker, that would contribute to value, but even if so, $250 would be unrealistic. Consider also that 20 years ago eBay was just getting started, so the chance of finding such a piece if you wanted one would have been far smaller than today. My guess is the seller probably isn't going to come down to a price more in line with what such a piece should be able to be had for these days, which is closer to what she originally paid.

Yup, folks, I have several pieces of CI I know I paid unrealistic prices for--convincing that lady she won't get her $100 back is not going to be likely.
