I'm not happy with the condition of the Puritan pan... something strange has been done to that pan and I can't seem to get it restored to my satisfaction... it didn't look bad when I bought it, but when I stripped it the surface of the iron was strange... almost soft... I suspect someone soaked it in vinegar for a long time to remove rust and then just seasoned over the mess they made.

I have a few pieces that were rusted bad and when I try to season them applying oil the pice only sucks the oil like sponge,I keep applying oil and after a few minutes sucks the oil again,I can’t make it shiny after 7 or 8 rounds

If you're trying to collect all the different Griswold wheat pattern corn stick pans you have a ways to go especially trying to get all the different variations. I have about 8 different ones myself and according to the Griswold Muffin Pan catalogue there are a few of them that are the holy grail pieces you would never run across in the wild.
I over-soaked one of the Griswold ash tray pieces one time and the iron was exactly as what you've described so most likely the previous owner has done the same to that one. Maybe just use it and in time it will re-develop somewhat of a seasoned finish. Good luck.

Doug those are great finds. I have not come across any wheat ones in my area but I am still looking. I did get a pair of Griswold pop over pans and corn stick. will have to post pics of those.

I've always loved the looks of the wheat pattern pans. I have the #2700 in addition to the #272 and the larger 282 as shown in the original post.

At one point I had the wheat pan shown on page 263 of the blue book but regrettably sold it.
I was fortunate enough to buy the 272 and 282 several years ago at auction for under $20 each. Traded a rusty Enterprise lard press I paid $10 for to get the 2700.:D
Would really like to have a #27 or 28 open frame version to add to my collection.

The #27 is a favorite of mine. I have it in aluminum as well. A lot of the aluminum ones out there are just (bad) recasts of the iron version.
