Erie Cast Iron Pot/Dutch Oven

Good morning,

I have a Erie Pot/Dutch Oven, that has 10 on the bottom and 839 - 10 on the lid, can you give me a little history on this? I could not find the 839 anywhere. Thank you. Bob Hollenbeck

839 is the Griswold pattern number for a #10 dutch oven lid. It was also re-used for a #4 flat bottom Scotch bowl. The p/n for the #10 dutch oven pot is 835. If it is an Erie dutch oven pot and not another shape, like a flat bottom kettle, but has no p/n, it would mean the pot was produced earlier than the lid, before p/ns were used. Or merely that there was leftover older inventory of pots without p/ns at the time the order was filled. Griswold started using p/ns on its Erie marked pieces in the 1890s.
