Welcome aboard.

I live about 20 miles north of Galveston and I've didn't know there was ever a foundry there.
That is the first piece I've ever seen with Galveston on it.

Did a quick research and found that Star Foundry existed in or around the Galveston area back in the 1800's. Maybe more research would turn up additional data. I haven't even checked our resources page. It may already be listed.

Nice! I have my paternal grandfather's spider with a lid. It was his camp stove. He started a fire, let it burn down and placed the skillet in the firepit with 6" leg extensions, just 3/4" pieces of galvy. Open a box of lard and dump it, get it hot then cook whatever we caught or shot that day, usually fish and squirrel rolled in cornmeal, potatoes, onion, hush puppies and that was dinner. Lard went into a coffee can for use the next nite.
He baked biscuits in it for breakfast.
