Hi,
New first time poster. Trying to figure what this is exactly. It is 11" round. It stamped 14 Juillet 1880. Approximately 1/2" deep except for raised head area.

Thanks, Jim

Being the focus here is cast iron cookware, you may not get an answer. I can't think of any function it would have in that area. If it were some kind of mold, the expectation would be the more detailed part would be on the concave face.

July 14, 1880 was the first celebration of Bastille day, the victory of the French revolution. I'm guessing, but I would give good odds that the lady on that plaque is a portrait of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France as she captures the luxurious lifestyle of the French royalty pre Revolution. She was the last Queen of France.

I have no clue as to the age of that nor if it is original or newly manufactured.
