Is this the "red rust color" that means fire damage?

Another curiosity question. In one of the resource sections, it talks about looking for fire damage. Is this an example? The tag said, "Cleaned and seasoned". I'm wondering if he cleaned it in a bonfire.

I see what you're saying, but it doesn't quite have the classic fire damage look. Pitted cooking surface would make me pass.

That rust looks like it would come off easy. I agree with Doug, the pitting is pretty bad and places like that usually ignore the condition and only focus on the fact that it is marked. I would pass as well.

I have found that it takes 300 to 500 uses to fill in the valleys and cover the mountains with good hard seasoning starting with a naked Lodge skillet. Thus leaving a smooth surface. YMMV.

Thick coats have a tendency to peel but not washing the polymerized oil out of the pits can speed up the filling process. With good seasoning the pits don’t hurt a thing but the eyes. They hurt my eyes a lot.
