Found this a few weeks ago in Sholow, Az. on a road trip. It is only the second one I have ever seen. The first one I passed on because I wasn't sure if it was altered by someone that drilled holes in a perfectly good lid.
According to the "Cast Iron Chaos" site these were used for potpourri and as a steamer in cold and dry weather. The site says they are pretty rare and was only made for a few years in the late 80"s.
