New Lodge Seasoning

Is there any reason to strip a new Lodge skillet to begin seasoning? I know Lodges come pre-seasoned and have heard mixed things about them. Thanks for any advice or input.

I don't strip the seasoning on my new Lodge. Just clean and add more seasoning if you like.

I will generally add one more seasoning to mine.

I have heard of people stripping them, maybe because of the oil Lodge uses.

Good to know!

There isn't anything wrong with the oil Lodge uses. Some people prefer flaxseed oil or Crisco verses that vegetable oil that is used.

I just wanted to add some clarity.

Ive always wondered how Lodge can get their first round of seasoning so dark and black, while it takes multiple coats for me to achieve the same thing.

Recently a coworker brought me a Lodge buffalo nickle skillet where the seasoning was flaking off. within minutes of immersion into the lye bath the entire seasoning layer sloughed off in large pieces. They seem to have some seasoning adherence issues.
