Unmarked #8

Hello, I recently picked up this #8 pan for a steal at $3.50. I am thinking it is an unmarked Griswold based on how the 8 on the handle is shaped but I have never seen one similar without markings. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Whatever the pan may be it is in great shape with a very smooth surface. Thanks!

I have a pan like that I bought expecting to see a Griswold logo after it came out of the lye tank. The number font is certainly Griswold, but the pan is not. Even the few unmarked Griswolds that exist have pattern numbers on them. My assumption with my pan, with its unusual bottom heaviness, is that a Griswold pan was used as a pattern, and the markings were removed from the sand molds that were made from it. Markings in the molds would be raised and could therefore be scraped off.

Oh that is interesting and makes sense. Now that you mentioned it, the pan does seem heavier. Thanks for the reply!

If they scraped off more sand than just the markings in the process, it would mean more space in the mold for iron, hence the heaviness.
