New to Collecting Need Advice

Hi all! I'm totally new to vintage cast iron. I picked the piece below up from a flea market recently for $20 and am wondering what to do with it. I am interested in having it to cook on not so much in collector's value etc.

The bottom says GRISWOLD in a cross logo and one can just make out ERIE PA below it. There's some pitting especially around the outer edge. The inner surface is heavily scratched and I'm not sure whether it's all scratches in the seasoning or in the pan itself. I do not think it is cracked. Based on a quick google and the logo it seems like the pan was made between 1940 and 1957.

I live in an apartment so electrolysis is not an option for me as I simply don't have the space. I am considering a lye bath or simply oven cleaner (though I'm not sure what other chemicals are in oven cleaner and if it should be considered safe for a food prep surface). I know how to season a pan but I'm not sure how to restore this surface. I've heard that any heavy grinding of an older pan's surface is frowned upon.

Your pan has what's known as the "late" handle, so somewhere in the middle to latter part of that timeframe. Utensil marks are normal for a pan of its age. There should be no reason to consider grinding.
