Trash or Treasure?

This past weekend I picked up a skillet that I though was going to be something special, but now I’m not so sure. The only marking on it sort of looks like a stylized number three, or perhaps it’s just a squiggly line shaped casting flaw. I compared the handle to some of my other skillets, and looks almost identical to a set of cheap “made in Taiwan” pans. Here’s where the difference comes in... the Taiwan pans have an very coarse texture, while this one has a cooking surface that is far smoother than my Griswold and Wagner pans. Did I find something good that has since been copied, or did I just find a cheap pan that has been ground smooth?

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t rest my thumb there. :chuckle:
I cleaned it up and I’m in the process of seasoning it. Even if it is a cheap piece, it looks like it may turn out to be pretty decent for daily use.

It looks a little bit like this Wagner skillet on amazon. I have also come across some Asian pans that looked similar but were unmarked. Neither of which seems to have a ground cooking surface. It's a mystery.

That seems to be an unusually long handle with an unusual shape. Doesn't seem to have the flat area on the top of the handle like an 1891. Also doesn't have the Wagner "triangle" as the handle meets the pan.

Will defer to those who have seen more pans, but suspect it was not made in the USA.

How about some pics after it is cleaned.
