Removing Graphite Crud

Any tips for removing the persistent black stuff from a piece cleaned in an e-tank with graphite? I sometimes feel like I could scrub for days without making a dent.
 
Should be ferrous oxide (soft black rust) not graphite. The electrolytic process creates it even with metal anodes. Minimize it by washing with Dawn, then rinse, dry and go ahead with seasoning.
