The up front question: Is this an ugly unknown? Is it Asian?

Part 1 of this thread is about a deep #8 slant Griswold Erie (no PU) my SIL got for me from his Boss (at that time). Boss is/was cleaning out his parents house and ask for an offer on the #8 slant. Boss accepts the $25 offer. Informs my SIL he wants to get rid of this one and asks for $5. Pounded is interesting. The blemishes in the cooking surface didn't look so bad in the text message.

Good news, negative on the lead paint test.

The handle is just "different". I think it is made outside the US.
 
If these are, as assumed, from the period that hammered CI was popular, the likelihood that they were imported is slim. The thinking has always been they were some unknown maker's attempt to quickly and cheaply strike while the (hammered) iron was hot.
