"Preserving" CI Yard Art After De-rusting

Have a CI Holden Steam Boiler stand in the E-tank.

Once all rust is off, I want to put something on that will preserve gray color and prevent future rusting (hopefully).

It will be placed in our garden year-round.

Google shows hat Rustoleum has a clear enamel spray.

Any experience with Rustoleum or other recommendations are appreciated.

Thank you,
Bill

If it's in the eTank are you anticipating loss of paint that is on it or are you planning to repaint the entire piece? If you're going to repaint it, it is imperative that you get a primer coat on it before any sort of top coat and sealer. There are specific paints that do better in the UV than others.
Ace hardware are good at giving this info so maybe check there for a start.
Good luck and post a pic when you're finished with it.

MDFraley, thanks for response.

All I see is rust and moss/algae. I don't see any paint.

I thought it might need a primer.

It is a 5-piece item and will require lots of brush work.

Thanks again.

Bill
