Sometimes You Have to Take a Chance.

The handle bottom was a good clue. Last time I found one like that, it had the 8 with the flat top and bottom visible on the handle, a Griswold for sure, I thought. When I pulled it out of the tank there was nothing on the bottom, at all.

I just did that today

Taking chances are always fun! Unless you find a crack.
Congrats on the $4 Griswold. Does it sit flat?

Yes, it sits very flat. I had low expectations on condition, but it turned out to be a great pan. I will post pics after I season it.

Nice job with the resto......just a question to anyone out there...is it just me, or didnt anyone ever clean their pans on the outside? I mean, it makes half the fun for us now tho, to uncover a surprise.

I often wondered the same thing. Didn't people wipe off the outside when something spilled over? I'd hate to see their stove(s).
