Dot Shaped Marks on Skillet

Hi all,

I’m new to the forum and just joined. I’m an antiques collector with a passion for history. I want to ask you if you know the meaning of the little dots sometimes stamped near the handles on skillets (see last photo attached)? I have seen similar dots on other iron ware products and wonder what their meaning is and why they were put there? The second photo shows similar dots and they are rather astonishingly on small 15thC handguns/cannons! The first photo shows the dot marks on a medieval pike. Are the dots possibly some old smith or foundry/forge symbol, perhaps of European origins? Many thanks for your advice!

Sincerely,

Magnus K

Can't speak to the markings on the pike, but the ones on 20th century skillets usually served to differentiate between multiple working patterns.
