Default Confusion.

Ebay has a hammered Wagner D.O. with a vented lid. Looking in the Red book I do not see a hammered DO with the vented lid. However there is a DO there on page 51 with a vented lid. In the picture in the book the vent is in a different place than in the lid to this DO.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-WAGN...item5d494e4720 I blew up the pics on Ebay and feel it may be original but am confused... Any thoughts?

Thank you, Carol

My guess would be, assuming the hole in the eBay lid is original, that it is not for a vent as on RB pg. 51, but rather for a missing temperature gauge.

I have not seen one with a temperature guage. Is it in one of the books?

I blew up the pics on the link and think they were real.. Did they appear to be an original part of the pan to you too?

Thanks for the input!

Griswold made one with a gauge, but I have not seen a Wagner so-equipped.

Shown in a 1938-39 Sears catalog, p.731, is a "New" hammered, Wagner made (judging from the photos) "Dutch Oven with Easy to Read Heat Indicator, $1.45"

It's possible that Wagner only made these for Sears and not with their regular store line of cookware.
