Codorus Blast Furnace

We went to visit my dad last month in S. Central PA. While there we went to visit the Codorus Furnace. It was built in 1765 to produce "pig iron". The pig iron was used by blacksmiths to produce products needed at the time. Later they produced cannons and cannon balls for the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. The furnace also produced iron bars, pots, pans and cast iron until it ceased operation in 1850. I lived with my dad there while in high school. My buddies and I would stop by here from time to time while we were out and about. It was cool back then but I never really appreciated what it was until I got into cast iron collecting.
