Staining on a Hammered Pan

I’ve had this pan in the lye tank for 2 weeks. I’ve taken it out a couple of times to scrap off the loose crud.

What has me concerned is the “staining” on the outside. It’s not coming out all “silver” like other pans.

Any ideas what this is? Will it blend in when I season it?

Thanks.

Lye only works on build-up that has some grease left in it. What you have there has probably been reduced over a long period of time to just carbon. You can either try electro or season over it and it will eventually blend.

After a trip through the lye bath and etank, I've found residual staining can be removed with stainless scrubbing pads, vinegar, and lots of elbow grease.
This seems to really help with nickel plated items to get rid of the black spots.
Hopefully it'll work on the hammered items as well
A good seasoning will blend it all in however.
