Cleaning Cast Iron with Aluminum Foil

Is it okay to clean cast iron with aluminum foil? My mother in law said thats how she cleaned the rust off her skillets.

If it doesn't permanently mark or mar the iron, and it works, it should be no problem.

Depends how bad it is, I think,50-50 water and vinager is easier and faster
