BRAND NEW Wagner 11.75 skillet

My son and I went to an Army surplus store near and Army base (He is an Army ROTC cadet btw) for some gear he needed. Anyway, at this store, I stumbled across a BRAND NEW Wagner 11.75 in skillet with the big factory sticker still stuck to the pan. It is a 1997 mfg date (I think..see pics). Anyway, you can see the machine marks inside the pan. As I type this, I'm trying to figure out a way to get the glue that was used to attach the big sticker to it. It was also printed in French. I will try and scan them do so kind of document file like a pdf and post them so you can read them.

BRAND NEW Wagner 11.75 in skillet-Pt 2

Well, my new skillet is in the oven for a seasoning. According to Mama Wagner, season at 350 F for an hour and do not use olive oil. Wagner Seasoning oil is recommended, but I doubt that is available, so vegetable oil is the alternate. While my find may not be considered collectable vintage, I would say there's some collectable value to some degree because, for one, (to me anyway), it has the smooth, machined inside.

Thks, RickC and Ken. Yes, I read about American Culinary at some of these resources here >

and here >

and here >

If I was going to buy from that site, I think I would call to see if it is legitimate. Btw, this is a USA made...probably among the last USA made.

After seasoning, it was a beautiful piece of cast iron to look at.:geek:

So my trial runs so far as follows....

I made cornbread from off-the-groc-shelf box of Krusteaz http://www.krusteaz.com/cornbread-mixes-products-91/southern-cornbread-and-muffin-mix-4294967687
..that bake well in the oven.

And I fried a pound or so of bacon this morning for the family to munch on.:glutton: :tasty: :coffee:

Re: BRAND NEW Wagner 11.75 skillet Part 3

A couple of pics after seasoning and use. Oh joy!

lol When I'm too busy (lazy) to make corn bread from scratch, I reach for the Jiffy Mix too. Everyone I give it too loves it. Especially when in hunting camp in the Idaho mountains in October and November.

Haven't tried the Jiffy brand yet but will soon.

It's $.59 a box around here, in CA.

FYI
To make a skillet full it usually takes a few boxes. So don't just buy one box thinking it's going to make a whole pan full.

Lots of people, ShawnE and myself included, will add honey, corn, jalapenos, cheese, etc etc..
