Gem pan questions

Kev, it was in Blissfield, if your coming, send me a PM

Is it worth buying to hang up? What's it worth?

it's worth what anybody is willing to pay for it. It's pretty much a $5 wall hanger since it's cracked but it will still work to cook in. I have a few that are cracked that just hang for decoration. once using enough the seasoning fills in the cracks and it works just fine. Most things you cook in a pan anyways aren't much liquid like for a dutch oven or pot.

Doug-

I was doing some research and I found a picture on this site in the gem pan section that looks identical to the Detroit pan. A N.Waterman #8. Is it likely Detroit would have used this and copied it?? I did find a small crack in the handle of it, will that affect the useability? does it effect the value much as its not in a critical area?

Waterman designs were widely copied, likely using Waterman pans as patterns. Dimensions on the different ones are all over the place by fractions of an inch suggesting such copying. A crack will always affect collectible value, but not necessarily usability.
