Default Unmarked #8 Gate Mark?

Anyone care to take a stab at the maker on this one? Got it at a yard sale. Needs to be cleaned up, but appears to be in good shape. There's a #8 on the handle, and it seems unique enough (to my new-at-this eyes) that I thought someone might know. Haven't stripped it yet to see if there's more info.

There's a part of me that feels like it's in such good shape that it couldn't be 120+ years old.

I have a piece that's probably closer to 200 years old, and it looks great - that skillet being 120 years old and looking that good is not out of the realm of reality. You might want to post at The Bottom Gate Marked Cast Iron Cookware group page, those folks know their old stuff!

I've seen that handle style before.. but just can't place a maker with it... I tried looking in my usual places the other day and came up empty.

Steve Stephen's 'bottom gate marked cast iron cookware' group, as mentioned above is good also 'the iron works! collectors of early iron' is a good group... if you can get the attention of a gentleman named Jim Fuchs... he probably has a price list or advertisement from the maker and details about the foundry that you won't find anywhere else.
