First Post and Help ID

New to collecting but have used cast iron most of my 60 plus years. I have a couple of skillets I found in my dad’s stuff. The first one has an apparent gate mark with an off center 8 on the bottom, the heat ring is inset from the edge. The handle almost looks like it was added after casting and is thinner than average. The second skillet is pretty common in most cases. There is a very faint 8 on the handle and 10 1/2 inch skillet stamped on the bottom. It has a very unique heat ring. Any help in identifying the makers is appreciated. I’m sure they are nothing special, just curious. Thanks!

Old gate marked pans of that era, likely early to mid-19th century, are rarely identifiable as to maker. The handle would have been part of the casting, not added. And is in no way reminiscent of "early Griswold", as suggested by the commenter.

The second is a Wagner, also seen sold as Griswold, and those with that unusual heat ring were typically seen Teflon coated. Whether yours was and the coating had worn off, or it was sold bare iron is uncertain.

I knew the old gate marked cast iron was not likely identifiable as to the maker, but asking was cheap lol

I guessed the second to be a Wagner because of the stamp on the bottom, but I'd never seen a heat ring like that. If it ever had any teflon, that is all long gone. No evidence of it now.
