Thanks Doug.

I have cleaned over twenty pieces, some of which were very crusty, in my lye bath. Is it time to mix up a fresh solution? I have no idea how long it stays 'good' or if the solution gets weakened by the crud going into the solution.

I poured my original 5-gallon tank's contents into my new larger one when I bought it last year, and added 5 more gallons of water and another lb. of lye. Sediment doesn't seem to affect its cleaning properties. As long as it's taking off the crud in the expected amount of time, I don't see changing it out any time soon. Now, why did I buy that 32 lb. of lye again? Oh, yeah, it was on sale.

Thanks Doug. I'll try adding another pound of lye to the ten gallon solution I am now using.

Don't feel bad about the lye purchase, I have bought about a dozen pieces of CI for the same reason.
