Painted or Just Very Old?

Hello Everyone!

I recently bought 3 new cast iron skillets off of Craigslist for a really good price. Being rather new to the antique cast iron world I am wondering if these have been painted or if the peeling black stuff is from very old seasoning (I have attempted to date these and one is around the 1930s). I attached a few pictures of the worst places. They are VERY smooth, something that I was not used to in my original Walmart Lodge.

One looks like the seasoning/ paint is over top of rust or corrosion. The other area looks a lot like back peeling paint. They are smooth all over except for the charring at the bottom of one.

Please let me know if you need anything further to help. Keep in mind that there are 3 different ones. One has major charring on the bottom but they all have a very smooth feel that is similar. If one is painted I feel like they all are.

Thank you for any help you can give me! Once I figure out if it is paint or not I will move on with restoring them as needed!

I doubt that is paint, looks like old seasoning to me. Subject it to easy-off in a plastic bag and it should start coming off.
