I've had the block FPW and the smiley for a year or so and recently found the 'missing link' smiley that seems to be a mix of the characteristics of the other two... and it also has some ghost marks from 'the best to cook in' logo. The first two (block FPW and smiley with ghost marks) are both deeper than the regular smiley... and both have a very distinct outside heat ring and reinforced lip around the outside top of the skillet... the plain 9 has the more 'rolled' heat ring and no reinforced lip. Specifically the difference in depth seems to be due to the removal of the reinforced lip from the pattern.
