Why Do Waffle Irons Hate Me So Much?

theres a couple pieces on my wish list, one is a chicken fryer w/lid, which aren't easy to find in the north, and a waffle iron. First waffle iron I bought at an auction, I paid to much for it with the wrong base (my fault), and this second one, I inspected real close before purchasing, but just pulled it out of the etank to find this crack, pretty disappointed right now. Probably not even worth continuing the clean up since they are such a pain to do. Only invested $25 in this one but it probably ain't worth anything now. Last three pictures are what I've found for markings, anyone seen one like this and maybe I.D. the maker? Can only find a raised 8 and 9 on the paddles inside circles, and backside of base handle has a raised 8 9.

It's hard to tell from the pics but that appears to be a pretty significant crack for that piece not to be broken off. If it's not visible on the inside of the paddle it could just be a mark left from the sand mold cracking when the iron was poured.

I thought the same thing and wondered how it was even still attached when I discovered it, I didn't mess with it much as I was frustrated when I seen it so I finished scrubbing most of the rust off and put it in the lye tank, I guess I'll check it out again, I sure hope your right

Well Jeff the mystery is solved about why that big chunk hasn't fallen off yet, just got around to fishing through the lye tank and found it again, pulled it out, looks like someone repaired it with some sort of epoxy. Guess all I have now is a base. Last 3 pics in the Imgur post is what I just found after lye tank.
