A Few Recent Fakes, and One Old Find

I was at a flea market a month or so back and found a vendor that had a lot of CI. It was pretty dark in the building, and I was pretty sure, even in the dark, that the mini skillet and the corn stick pan were fakes. I decided that for $6 it was worth it to have a few examples. In the light, the poor quality is really apparent.

The ice shaver I picked up about 5 years ago, and is the only one I've seen in person.

This is my first attempt to post using Imgur, so I hope this works!

And heat damage on the cornstick pan to boot. It's hard to believe those were ever mistaken for genuine. IIRC, they were something like three for $20 in ads in the back of Antique Trader magazine decades ago.

Glad you didnt pay much, as those two of the worst recasts that I have ever seen. No offense.

And welcome to The Forums!

None taken. Like I said, I was pretty sure they were fake, and I have always been fascinated by fakes. I collect too much stuff, including coins, both ancient and recent. Fakery goes back thousands of years when the Romans would wrap a copper planchet in silver to make it appear real. Some fakes, like the coins I can understand. Back 2000 years ago it might have made sense. I have also seen the punched out plankets of electrical boxes aged and coated in dirt to fake "Uncleaned coins" that sold for a dollar or two. I mean if you have that much time, get a job! I have a lot of other CI that this Site has enabled me to ID. Most of it is BSR, and some Griswold that I got decades ago, and I will try to post some pics later. My wife is not all that happy with my collections, so the small stuff is safer to take pictures of. And less painful if she hits me with it:p

I was at the Nashville flea market at the fair grounds last month and there was one vendor that had a bunch of obviously fake griswold pups... like 10 - 15 of them scattered around his tables... he had to know they were fake as he was selling them for like $10 each... kind of made me mad that he was selling them at all...
also saw a couple of booths selling the little fake corn stick pans and skillets... but at least they only had 1 of them... not a dozen... or maybe they just replenished their one 'display' item after someone bought one... to keep the illusion that it was a rare one of kind piece.

The one I went to was in North Georgia. The seller said the CI mostly came from his late dad's barn. Most of it was skillets, and they were mostly BSR and Wagner. At least one still had the paper label. I don't think he knew anything about what he had.
