MDFarley, Alter you have cleaned that flat handled rusty skillet would you mind putting up a photo of both sides. Looking at yours I see two pour spouts on my #11 it has only one on the right side....

All the ones that have passed my hands have been bare cast iron, and the spindles nickeled steel.

As far as preserving them I am going with mineral oil with light heat. For myself I like the gray...

Lye $20.00 and 5 gallons of water will clean 100 pieces

I pay enough to the electric co as it is to season pieces.

Conserve when we can.

So part of being a collector is being a researcher. This is the part my hands stay clean, no digging in old attics, no scrubbing old iron, no seasoning iron.
