Re: It's a shame what people do to skillets

I got burned on 2 different Dutch ovens I bought off ebay. Both DO's needed cleaning, and that's when I found the cracks. I now use the bottoms of same to transport smaller kettles and DO's that are...

Re: Saving history one piece at a time. Wood Bishop & Co.

Here's the bottom of my bigger W&B roll pan. It's currently in the e tank, can take pix of it down to bare iron if you want. BTW, the smaller pan is brown from the peanut oil I seasoned it with. I've...

Re: New E-tank ups and downs

It could be worse, many phones meet their demise in a water closet. In fact, I know someone who did just that . . . :covri:

Re: Saving history one piece at a time. Wood Bishop & Co.

LOL, you're slaying me here! I'm glad you got me motivated because when I bought my 2nd roll pan, I took it to the garage to put in the e tank I think it may be painted and wanted to save it for...

Re: Saving history one piece at a time. Wood Bishop & Co.

Of course those skillets came from Maine, says so right on them! LOL, between you sneaking over here from the Northeast Kingdom to poach iron & Mike Zubik befriending every antiques dealer & pawn...

Thumbs up Re: Saving history one piece at a time. Wood Bishop & Co.

One would think that Wood & Bishop iron would be easy to find here in Maine, but the few skillets I've seen for sale are either cracked or warped. Roll pans are a bit more common, I've managed to...

Re: Stainless Steel in Lye

Did you try a magnet on the suspected stainless steel parts, Adam?

Re: etank battery charger

I've been using my stainless e tank from time to time all winter in an unheated garage here in Maine. When the weather started turning cold, I wrapped the tank in heat tape and covered the same with...

Re: newbie here and wondering if this anything to consider

A Griswold flat bottom kettle lid might fit, but you'd be lucky to find one for less than $100. You might just have to try different orphan lids on it. A #8 Vollrath DO lid works well on my #9 Wapak...

Re: Oh-oh

Is this acidic food issue a good reason/excuse to acquire some enameled CI for that purpose?

Re: newbie here and wondering if this anything to consider

That's a Wagner flat bottom kettle. Is that a 6 I see at 6 o'clock on the bottom?

Re: etank battery charger

I generally run mine on the 20 amp setting & it looks like a jacuzzi shortly after I flip it on. Rarely do I have to leave it on for more than the 12 hours unless I'm cleaning several pieces at once...

Re: Sidney Hollow Ware DO

I was thinking the same thing, Bonnie. I have #7 & 8 Wapak DO's, both lid & pot are smaller than their Griswold contemporaries. I didn't know that Sidney copied Erie though, good info.

Post Re: Dutch Oven Recommendation

Adam, did you plan on using your Dutch oven both in the oven & on the stove top, or mostly just stove top? I mostly use the stove top & while a DO will suffice for that, flat bottom kettles of the...

Re: Camp Dutch oven exterior seasoning

I'm thinking that high temperature spray for gas grilles might be worth a try for exterior protection. Humidity could be a problem for the CI I keep at my lakeside camp & I have to protect it...

Re: Camp Dutch oven exterior seasoning

So when you say a coat of oil, you're talking about edible oils? I just want to have some kind of preservative on the non-cooking surfaces of my CI between uses.
It sounds like maybe I shouldn't be...

Camp Dutch oven exterior seasoning

I've been using peanut oil to season my CI, inside and out, and have had great results. Now I've been gathering up some camp type DO's, most with legs but one flat bottom. Since one or more of these...

Re: etank battery charger

My charger is a Schumacher 1520 XL. It has 2 amp slow charge, 20A rapid charge, 55A boost & 150A engine start settings. I usually run it at the 20A setting but can go at the 55A setting if I'm in a...

It's manual only, Dan. I can give you the model # when I get home from work tomorrow morning if you want. It's a big one, comes with wheels. My little $30 charger worked OK for a while but the way it...

Re: etank battery charger

I tried a small, $30 battery charger as well as a power supply but, due to the size of my stainless e tank, neither worked well. Bought a big manual Schumacher at WalMart & that solved my problem....
