Late Handle Griswold #14?

Just picked up a late handle griswold #14. Seems weird because they made the block logos with heat rings from 1920-1930 and didnít incorporate the late handle skillets until their small logos in...

Are These Plated?

Just picked up a nice set of small logo griswold skillets. Pretty sure the #4 is plated, not sure what finish it is though. Also the #10 looks a little bright, itís so hard to tell if itís just...

Anyone near Williamsport?

Too much of a hike for me, but thought I'd pass along what seems to be a pretty good deal. http://williamsport.craigslist.org/for/5857055510.html

Re: What kind of damage is this?

Anybody have any experience sanding? Don't want to ruin a griswold even more. Will the results be noticeable sanding marks and make the pan into a good user, but lose collector value? (Not that it...

Re: What kind of damage is this?

Well I seasoned it because I didn't know what else to do. That is on the cooking surface. And there's actually another small spot on the bottom of the pan. It was in the e tank for a couple days. I...

What kind of damage is this?

It's not pitting because pitting removes metal and these are raised surfaces. Pretty weird, what could have caused this? A casting flaw, maybe? It's a shame I picked up two griswold #5s, ones a...

Re: What am I doing wrong?

I let them sit for probably about 20 hours and then followed dougs directions exactly. Interestingly this time they didn't seem to flash rust at all, which almost makes me think I didn't strip them...

Re: What am I doing wrong?

Well I tried to season right on top and it didn't change a thing. Heated them up first, oiled, wiped down, cooked at 350 for 10, wiped down again, and then 450 for 45 mins.

I suppose it might even...

Re: What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the advice! Yeah I normally heat up the pan before seasoning but for the initial seasoning I can't seem to do it without it flash rusting, even with rinsing it in cold water. I will try to...

What am I doing wrong?

I just seasoned two pans at once. After the e-tank I scrubbed them down, dried them, put on crisco, wiped off excess with a microfiber towel, put in oven at 200 for 5-10 minutes, did a second wipe...

Re: Are these plated?

Ok that's good to know, thank you. It's interesting that both of them have very similar "flaws" though.

Re: Are these plated?

Was looking closer at the two no. 5s and they look a little off to me. The lines of the cross look a little wavy whereas pictures I'm seeing are usually dead straight. Is it possible these are fake?

Factory defect

Thought I'd share with you guys an interesting piece I bought over the weekend. Looks like an air bubble in the casting and also it's missing the period after the S in USA. Must've been made on a...

Re: Are these plated?

That's great news, thank you! Wasn't sure if maybe the plating was just worn, I have yet to see a plated pan I'm sure once I do I'll be able to easily identify them in the future.
